Keyboarding
I honestly believe that keyboarding should be apart of every elementary student’s curriculum. I to this day remember when I had keyboarding class. I feel that without that class, I would still be a slow at typing. I would also have to constantly be looking down at the keys. I can now freely type any notes that I need to take, while sticking focusing on my profession. When I was in the keyboarding class, I remember not liking it very much. It was always a competition between other students in the class to see who can get the most words per minute correctly. But, it is my own personal opinion that there is nothing wrong with a little competition. That healthy competition pushed me to try harder and to learn to type better. Sometimes guided practice is the best way to learn how to do a task.

I also think keyboarding is very important! This is something that the kids really NEED to learn. Nowadays students are using computers in the classroom more often so they really need to learn and practice this skill.
I agree with your comment about guided practice. I think keyboarding is an important skill to develop in the elementary ages, but I think it is often over looked. It seems that there are so many areas to cover in teaching that keyboarding is often the one thing that is taken out or diregarded during the school year. My hope is that there will be a day when keyboarding will push its way back into the curriculum and a responible amount of time will be allotted for the development of that skill
