Reflection from class November 28, 2007

First, I was VERY impressed with everyone's digital story. There were so many unique, and original ideas. I feel that everyone went about creating their story in a different way. I was not expecting that at all. It was great to see everyones, because you can never have too many ideas to help you incorporate this idea into the classroom.

I was also very glad that we got to learn how to create a podcast and use Garage Band. I have had Garage Band on my computer for about 2 years now, and I never knew how to use it. I opened it once and got freaked out, and assumed it was too complicated for me. This was not a good attitude to have. I have also noticed that Apple is VERY good about having tutorials available for its customers. There is a large variety for every program and every product they sell. I found it very helpful when creating my digital story.

I, too, enjoyed learning about the different programs available on the Mac. I will admit that I was completely against using a Mac as my only experience was through a PC. However, after experiencing through the classes I have taken at Iowa State (primarily this one), I have now grown quite fond of my Mac, which is probably a good thing because that is all my school district will use.

I agree about Apple's easy-to-use tutorials and programs. Often new software seems intimidating, but when you break it down, it is pretty simple. I've noticed that Apple seems to carry a lot of programs that would be very useful for teachers, and for that reason when I get a new computer, it will be an Apple. I have been a PC-lover forever, but I have been converted to Macs due to their ease of use and widely-available programs.

I also enjoyed watching everyone's digital story! It amazes me how creative everyone can be! I have never had the chance to work with GarageBand either, so I was glad that we discussed it in class. I opened it once while I was working on my digital story & took one glance at it and decided it was too complicated for me! I have definitely learned a lot about Mac's programs through this class. Since all schools use Mac computers, it was very beneficial to learn about all of these programs!!

I think it is so interesting that many of us have programs on our computers that we have never opened or opened once and got discouraged and never opened them again. For example, one of my friends had to introduce me to MovieMaker. I had no idea that it was even on my computer. I am sure that there are some other programs that I am unaware of, which is very sad!

Since we have been working with so many different programs on the Mac's I am able to take my new found knowledge to school and teach my coworkers how to use the many programs on their computers! This is kind of nice, for all parties involved!

It was really nice to see everyone else's digital stories and get ideas from them. You can tell that each digital story was made by someone different because they each had their own unique touch to it.

I've learned how to make the podcasts in another class, but even in class last week I learned a little more about them. I agree with you about Apple - I just got my first Apple computer ever a couple months ago (my family has always been a PC one) and I absolutely love playing with the different programs on it because it's easy to learn on. I know that a lot of school districts use Mac computers because they want students to be able to easily use them.

I also think that Mac has more program options for education, because iMovie is easier than MovieMaker in my opinion, iPhoto has great features on editting photos, and iDVD is really nice and easy to use.

Everyone's digital story is so great that it provides me different ideas to connect different subjects with technology.
Besides, I was also amazed by Garage Band that night, because I didn't know it can be the creating tool of podcasting.

My experience of computer before I came to ISU is all about PC. After I get in touch with Mac, I have to admit that the software is much powerful than PC. It's a good experience and I think students providing students with this kind of experience is also very important.
